Thousands of people travel from and to our region each day to go to work, engage in education or to access services so it’s important that we have the rail, road and public transport services that meet those demands.

We have already worked together as a community to keep the free Gong Shuttle when the previous Liberal-Nationals Government tried to scrap it and we will keep working together to improve our transport networks.

Right now, we are seeing some big changes in local transport including:

  • The roll-out of the new Mariyung rail carriages which will see us move to a peak hour service every 15 minutes and off-peak services every half hour,
  • Upgrades to the Mount Ousley Interchange are well underway,
  • $270 million has been committed to improving roads to and from Port Kembla port as it becomes a critical part of the state’s freight network,
  • Ongoing safety upgrades along Picton Road,
  • Finalising the Illawarra Rail Resilience Plan to guide upgrades to our heavy rail network,
  • Relocation of the bus layover from Marie Drive to near Wollongong Station, freeing up much-needed car parking near the beach,
  • Progressing with the detailed design for south facing on/off ramps at Fowlers Road, Dapto, and
  • Record funding to local councils so that they can repair potholes more quickly.
