Local schools right across the Illawarra rely heavily on the financial support from their P&C and will get an immediate cash boost under a Daley Labor Government.

Parents spend the year fundraising for vital equipment to help enhance their childrens’ education.

This week as students returned to the classroom, parents were forced to buy anything from basic stationary to tissues on top of the costs of uniforms, shoes, bags, text books and BYO devices.

The Liberal & National Government has made cuts to education and have the wrong priorities. They are spending $2.2 billion on Sydney stadiums depriving schools of important funds.

NSW Labor knows the hard work of local P&Cs put in to help support  the work of their local school’s teaching staff and principals to ensure children have all that they need.

NSW Labor will allocate $5,000 a year to every public school P&C across NSW to help provide some immediate financial relief to increasingly stretched school budgets.

The cash boost will go to the P&C Associations of all of the state’s 2,200-plus public schools and must be spent on additional resources for our children such as science equipment, library books, playground equipment, sports uniforms or teaching aids.

This comes as independent research released earlier this week shows that NSW parents pay more for a public school education than anywhere else in the country.

NSW Labor’s policy is fully funded and has been costed by the Independent Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) at $11 million per year.

Quotes Attributable to NSW Shadow Treasurer Ryan Park:

“Parents are being called on more than ever to help boost up a stretched school budget. At every school across the Illawarra you will find dedicated and hardworking members of the P&C.

“This cash injection each year will allow the P&C to work with the Principal and allocate funds to ensuring the kids have what they need in the classroom.

“Parents have a right to have their say when it comes to their child’s education. The parents on P&Cs give so much of their time raising funds for their schools, the least government can do is provide them with some assistance.

Quotes attributable to Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson:

P&C’s are the lifeblood of our schools. They play such a pivotal role in the education of our children, dedicating so much time and effort to ensure that students are able to learn and prosper in the best schooling environment possible.

Labor’s funding commitment will help to take the pressure off and ensure that our state’s public school students have access to the resources and equipment they need.

The Liberal National Government has its priorities all wrong. Instead of investing in our children, their education and their future, they are spending billions of hard earned taxpayer’s dollars on sporting stadiums across Sydney. It just doesn’t make sense.

Quotes attributable to Member for Wollongong Paul Scully:

“I know the local P&C in local schools in the Wollongong electorate do a fantastic job to help support our schools, students and teachers.

“This immediate funds boost will help P&C’s provide essential tools for learning which are currently in short supply because the Berejiklian Government is more interested in splurging on Sydney stadiums.

“Parents and children in our school communities deserve a helping hand and under NSW Labor they get support.”
