HOUSEHOLD ROOFTOP SOLAR TO EXPAND UNDER NSW LABOR

More Wollongong households will become part of the clean energy revolution if a Daley Labor Government is elected in March.

More Wollongong households will become part of the clean energy revolution if a Daley Labor Government is elected in March.

Nearly 3,500 homes in the Wollongong electorate already have roof top solar energy generation and this will grow under NSW Labor’s plan to support a further 500,000 households install roof top solar.

Under Labor’s Solar Homes policy, households will be given the chance to add solar panels to their homes and enjoy cheaper, cleaner and greener energy.

Owner occupied households in NSW with a combined income of $180,000 or less would be eligible for a rebate, to be capped at $2,200 per household.

This will help to create a “virtual” power plant for NSW, generating up to an additional 2GW (2000 MW) once fully installed.

Labor’s plan would be phased in, starting in the 2019-20 financial year, and the panels will be required to be installed by qualified electricians.

The safe installation of panels will also support workforce development and training which compliments efforts to boost green collar jobs locally through the Green Jobs Illawarra initiative.

NSW Labor’s latest announcement to expand household roof top solar generation is another element of its plans to increase renewable energy generation, reduce carbon emissions and reduce the cost of electricity, which includes re-regulating electricity prices, investing in renewable energy generation in rural and regional NSW and mandating the IPART solar tariff for households.

Labor’s plans to help reduce the cost of electricity stands in stark contrast to the Liberals who, despite promising that electricity bills would not rise with electricity privatisation, have overseen an increase of more than 60 per cent in average household bills.

Comments attributable to Paul Scully MP:

“A Daley Labor Government will lead the way when it comes to expanding renewable energy generation and addressing climate change.

“Thousands of households locally have already installed solar panels and their household budget and our environment are reaping the benefits.

“Labor’s Solar Homes policy will allow thousands more homes to be part of the renewable energy generation revolution.

“This is a plan that allows us to take real action on climate change while helping to reduce the cost of living.

“I look forward to seeing thousands more homes in Wollongong with solar panels as a result of Labor’s plan for cheaper, greener energy in NSW.”
