More funding for Wollongong sporting groups

03 May 2021

Berkeley Sports Rugby League Club will receive a $2,000 grant for coaching and accreditation courses for volunteers as part of additional funding from the 2020/21 Wollongong Electorate Local Sport Grant program.

Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully, has announced that three additional local sporting groups will share in $11,090 in funding under the program.

The additional funding will be provided to Wests Illawarra Aquatic Swim Club who receive a $5,000 grant for the purchase of two additional lines and data cables to enhance the existing electronic scoreboard.

A further $2,000 has been awarded to Berkeley Netball Club to purchase a laptop to assist with club administration, and Western Suburbs Junior Rugby League Football Club Illawarra will receive an additional $2090 for the purchase of uniforms for female teams, bringing their total grant for the uniforms to $5,000.

Mr Scully said he was pleased to secure more funding for local sporting groups in the Wollongong electorate.

“When I heard that there may have been some funds left in the Local Sports Grants program I continued to push for a share to come to Wollongong”, Mr Scully said.

“I encourage all successful clubs to make sure they shop locally wherever possible to purchase equipment and uniforms, which helps our small businesses and local jobs.

“Local sporting groups in Wollongong consistently have high quality applications for projects and I’m always on the look-out for funding opportunities to make sure our community gets its fair share.” Mr Scully said.
