Scully welcomes funds to reopen Warrawong's King Street Jetty

11 February 2021

Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully, has welcomed the allocation of extra funding to reopen the King Street Jetty at Warrawong on the Lake Illawarra foreshore.

This funding is in addition to the $1.3 million which is funding the repair of other jetties along the Lake Illawarra foreshore to make them same again for public access and use.

Mr Scully has been championing the repair of the Lake Illawarra foreshore jetties, which have fallen into disrepair and closed to the public following the disbanding of the lake Illawarra Authority in 2013.

The Minister for water, Property and Housing, Melinda Pavey MP, told Mr Scully today his campaign to reopen the King Street Jetty had been successful and tenders would be called shortly.  Work on repairs is expected to begin in the next couple of months.

“I’m pleased that the Minister has listened to my concerns and has responded with some extra funding to reopen the King Street Jetty.

“That work will now allow the repairs to take place and the jetties along Lake Illawarra’s foreshore to be reopened to public access and enjoyment for the summer season later this year.

“I want to thank all members of the community who signed and supported my petition to convince the Government to make these funds available and to make good these key community assets”, he said.
