Seymour Shaw Park has been the home of local sport for decades, but this work has taken the precinct to the next level delivering new and upgraded community sporting facilities and open space which will be used by the growing Miranda community for generations to come. 

The upgrades delivered by the Minns Labor Government and Sutherland Shire Council will be officially opened with a community celebration today, including family-friendly activities, local sporting clubs and community representatives.

The works have delivered:

• High-quality turf areas for cricket, soccer and netball
• Upgraded sports fields with improved drainage and irrigation and new lighting to support evening training and competition
• A new viewing platform and terraced spectator seating area
• Cricket nets and supporting sports infrastructure
• A new amenities building with public toilets, change rooms, meeting space and supporting sport facilities
• Landscaping, new trees, garden beds and public art murals
• Accessible pathways for easy navigation around the precinct
• Off-street parking improvements

The project was made possible by a $3 million investment from the NSW Government, Council developer contributions and support from the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund via Cricket NSW.

This is another example of the Minns Labor Government building better communities which are supported by quality sporting infrastructure and open space.

Premier of New South Wales Chris Minns said:

“This upgrade is exactly the kind of project that growing communities like the Shire need.

“Local sporting clubs are at the heart of communities across NSW, and facilities like Seymour Shaw Park help ensure more people can take part in the sports they love close to home.

“This $3 million investment by the government has helped deliver better playing surfaces, modern amenities and improved spectator facilities that will benefit thousands of residents in Miranda and across the wider Sutherland Shire.”

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:

“Seymour Shaw Park has been an important hub for the Miranda community since first opening in the 1950s.

“The Shire has a history of producing great sports people and will no doubt help produce many more with facilities like this.

“These vital new and upgraded facilities give families, players and spectators even better spaces to gather, train and play.”

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:

“Grassroots sport brings communities together, and the Minns Labor Government is proud to invest in the facilities that help more people get active, participate and enjoy sport.

“Seymour Shaw Park is now ready to support the next generation of local players, clubs and families, and I’m proud the NSW Government has played a part in making that happen.”

Mayor of Sutherland Shire Council Jack Boyd said:

“Seymour Shaw Park has long been a home for local sport, and these upgrades ensure it will continue to serve our community for generations to come.

“This is a tremendous outcome for local cricketers, soccer players, netballers, families and spectators, who can now enjoy modern facilities that better support training, competition and the game day experience.

“I’m especially pleased this project has delivered not only better sports infrastructure, but also improved public spaces, accessible connections, landscaping and striking new murals created by talented artists, most of whom are local to the Shire.”
